I’m honored to be asked as co-captain for Reef Riders and hope you didn’t make a mistake ! LOL
My number one priority is to win the 2009 SLSA Team Championship then to pull the existing team together
and really encourage and work with all of you to prepare everyone for the SLSA events with a real team spirit
and loads of fun as much as my RL life allows it.
I’m familiar with the bigger profiles but I want to connect with a few of the others as well.
So what I see since 3 months is awesome. We got our leaders Desi, Bobbi and Cip at the top,
followed closely by Noie, Cymi and Kira and maybe we have surfers like Kantbe & Lynda come down and be part of it.
I want to know where we are at as people, as surfers and as competitors and I want to scout and find out new talents and
involve some Legends like Rachelle if possible. We build our future on our strong foundations with boldness, respect and humility.
Reef Riders Team is full of potential and awesome individualities and I got some ideas in my pocket.
Don’t ask me to be toady. Fake flatteries don’t help !
To reach that 1st aim, I’m fired up with a unique motto : “Think global, Act local” (think for the team, act for each surfer)
and with the philosophy that Joey Buran has for his USA surf team.
The best surfers will get to surf and if you don’t come to practice with fire in your eyes
and if you don’t have a passion for it then you will not be performing for the Reef Riders in comps.
That is what I’m going to ask, that it what I’m going to give and that is what I require as a co-captain.
I’m going to ask the best, give my best and require one’s best coz each Reef Rider counts for one. Wooooot !
Just never forget : at the end, it’s all about fun ! / G.
I was trying to find the road to success, i tried to find it on my satellite navigation system 'Tom Tom' but couldn't find it! Then i looked on my road map and still couldn't find a place called 'SUCCESS' until now...it was on a wave!
Reef Riders Rawk! Count me in Gorka!

Reef Riders does have a long and interesting history, not many teams older than Reef riders, and none actively competing. And from the beginning Reef Riders has always been one of the most competitive teams. I have always been a bit proud of fact that Reef Riders has never actively recruited riders from other teams. I believe Reef Riders have always surfed with a higher purpose. I like the way we have always quitely shown our presence, we don't have to tell anyone how good we are. We show them.
It was time for me to step down as captain. I think we need to have change now and then to keep things fresh and energized. Gorka is providing this renewed energy and along with Desi and Cip I know Reef Riders will continue to thrive. I am honored to be Reef Rider's Coach and please everyone feel free to grab me and catch some waves whenever you need me. And I promise I will finish updates to lessons learned notecard soon.

It is good that positive changes can be recognized and realized not only by Reef Riders Team but generally in the Surfing Scene. St. Pat's new concept of surf comp was a precursor to an entirely different spectrum of what we have identified as the spirit of competition with a healthy zest to welcome all; experience surfers and new riders. SLSA's new comp format of creating more rooms for all in Qualifying Round before the Main Event allows the opportunity for new riders to step forward and realize the passion to strive for our best alongside the experience ones and acknowledge the FUN and BLAST as we ride and feel the elements of virtual nature. In our SL Surfing Community, every teams may have different strategies to climb the peak of triumph but it is without any doubt that each of us is waking up to the break of dawn, creating simple moments with an experience of how we want it to be in SL. I am honored to have been part of Reef Riders Team spearheaded by Desi, Cip and Bobbi. Now that Gorka is with the Team as co-captain with his head full of new and refreshing ideas... I hope the team will continue to stay ahead... :D
